Workforce Engagement
The Problem
A technology company faced a challenge in understanding and evaluating their workforce’s perspectives. The company had grown quickly from a local and centralized population of 20 to a dispersed remote-first population of 400. The company was facing rapid attrition and feedback was indicating employees were starting to feel unengaged. The company’s CEO and leadership team aimed to understand the root causes of this disengagement and identify potential solutions to reengage their workforce.
The Impact
Administration of the survey, focus groups and 1:1 interviews were sited to have significantly improved morale by giving employees a voice in the organization’s culture. Leadership used the rankings of the attributes to report on the positives as well as the opportunities that existed to improve the culture. In collaboration with Allume Talent, the CEO and leadership ran workshops to brainstorm solutions to the lowest ranking items, assigned ownership and timelines and gave month to month updates on the progression towards those changes during all-hands meetings. 4 out of the 6 attributes saw an increase in their ranking by the 6-month mark when the engagement survey was ran again. Overall engagement scores were up 10% and participation in the survey went up 7%.
The Solution
To address this problem, Allume took a comprehensive approach to understanding the current landscape. We performed structured focus groups and one-on-one interviews for 16 different roles, 4 different seniority levels, remote & hybrid workers, and 7 different business units to understand the employees’ perspectives on the culture of the company. Additionally, we designed and administered a survey that tested 20 different attributes of engagement. Through the participation of 70% of the population, we were able to score and rank the attributes and design an improvement plan for those areas that were lowest scoring.
